Irene Mary Rotarius, 98, of Roseville, Michigan, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 5, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on December 8, 1926, in Onaway, Michigan, to Frank and Julianna “Julia” Kapalla, Irene exemplified strength and resilience throughout her life.
She was the beloved sister of Theodore "Teddy", George and Harry Kapalla and Lillian Hopp all who preceded her in death.
In 1950, she married the late Sylvester J. Rotarius, and together they created a life filled with love and family. They raised four children: Roger Rotarius, Timothy (Jan) Rotarius, Donna (Chris) Karas, and the late Deborah Cogan. Irene was also a cherished grandmother to Amy Rotarius, Ashley Rotarius (Jason Berlingieri), Sarah (David) Carlson, and Joshua Rotarius; and a proud great-grandmother to Luca and Tristen. Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
Irene’s life was defined by her devotion to her family and always placed the needs of others above her own.
She loved spending time in the kitchen trying out new recipes and making her favorites. She was known for always baking a cake for a loved one's birthday. She also enjoyed doing puzzles, and taking bicycle rides. Irene had a passion for literature, and once read over 100 books in a single year-a personal accomplishment she treasured. Above all else, her favorite moments were those spent with her family.
Irene's legacy of love and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to her family and friends during this time of loss.
