Lewis Paul Tabone, age 88, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, November 12, 2022. He was born in Gozo, Malta to Maria and George Tabone on January 18, 1934. He immigrated on his own to the United States in 1950, settling in Detroit, Michigan. While employed at Awrey’s Bakery, he met and married his wife of 63 years, Jean Helen (Novakowski), who preceded him in death in 2018.
Lewis owned and operated Lewis’s Market, a small grocery store on Detroit’s east side in the 1960s and early 70s where he would always quip, “We don’t make much money, but we have fun,” and everything was in “Aisle 2, Section B.” He later worked for South Lake and Grosse Pointe schools where he retired. He enjoyed flea marketing and garage saleing. He was always known for his quick wit and joking personality, always bringing a smile to everyone he met.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Maria, and survived by sisters, Carmella (Tony Borg), and Margret and brothers, Frank (Marianne), Joseph (Carmen), and Emanual (Carmen). He is survived by his children, Paul (Sheila), Louis (Marsha), and Gloria (John Lisey), grand-children Lewis (Stephanie), Sean (Kelsey), and Jessica, and Great Grand-children Madelynn, Lewis, Natalie and Elias.
Lewis is loved and will be greatly missed.
