In the short time I knew him, Mike was someone that had such a genuine and no nonsense outlook on life and people, always finding the positives in everything, that it was truly inspiring to just be around him. He made the best use of his great sense of humor by either encouraging others towards good life choices, or guiding them away from the poor ones, in a respectful, funny-but-firm way. I'll miss him tremendously.

I did want to share this: At work, and maybe he liked it or not (I think he did), we came to refer to him as "Detroit Mike". I don't even know if there was another Mike around to need this nickname separator. But, I like to think it was quite fitting, as it did serve to inform others that he did have a brusk hard outer shell, but as you got to know him (within 2 minutes), you knew how caring he was on the inside.

My sincere condolences to all of his family, friends, and loved ones.

You were an amazing person and a even greater friend. I will always cherish our talks about life, love, and dreams. I will never be able to eat at Chick-fil-A without thinking of you driving hundreds of miles just to see your home town homies. You will be missed, dear sir... Especially when the insomnia hours and you're not there to talk to. :( Love you always.
