

Barbara was born on May 19, 1943, in Coral Gables, Florida, to the late Robert and Alma Bush. She graduated from Coral Gables High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Florida State University, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Her love of children led her to a career as an elementary school teacher in Cobb County, where she touched the lives of many young students.
On July 30, 1965, Barbara married the love of her life, Marshall Walter. The very next day, they moved to the Atlanta area, beginning what would become a 61-year marriage filled with love, family, friendship, and countless memories.
Barbara was an exceptionally devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. She was the matriarch of her family and took great pride in the people she loved. She was happiest surrounded by family and friends and was known for being incredibly social and always ready to welcome others into her home. She treasured her many friendships, some of which spanned more than 80 years, and was a loyal and steadfast friend to so many.
An avid reader and world traveler, Barbara was curious about the world and enjoyed experiencing all that life had to offer. Above all, however, her greatest joy was her family. Her husband, daughter, and granddaughters were the center of her world, and the love she gave them will continue to shape their lives for generations to come.
Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Marshall Walter; her daughter, Lauren Jones; and her beloved granddaughters, Scout, Grace, and Aspen.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Wade Walter; her brother, Henry Bush; and her parents, Robert and Alma Bush.
A funeral service celebrating Barbara’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Rd, Roswell, GA 30076. Following the service, Barbara will be laid to rest beside her son, Wade, at Green Lawn Cemetery.

Barbara will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her generosity as a friend, her love of life, and the many people whose lives she made richer simply by being part of them.
