Carlton James Bates, 77, of Alpharetta, GA, passed away October 5, 2013. He was a member of Epiphany Byzantine Catholic Church, Roswell, GA. He was also a member of EAA, Rockwell/Boeing Retirees Club, Atlanta Track Club, and Life Member of the Penn State Alumni Association. He was born in Cleveland, OH, the son of William Carlton Bates and Eleanor Webb Bates, both deceased. He attended Corry High School, Corry, PA. He graduated from Penn State University with a BS and MS in Aeronautical Engineering. He also has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio State University. Carl worked as an engineer at North American Aviation/Rockwell in Columbus, OH for 22 years. He then worked at Rockwell/Boeing in Duluth, GA for 12 years, retiring in 1994. Survivors include his wife Barbara, one son Carlton Matthew Bates (Erin), two daughters Karen Jeanne Bates and Christine Elaine Hallerman (Craig). He has five grandchildren, Helena and C.J. Bates, Braeden Bates, and Mckenna and Noah Hallerman. He was predeceased by a sister, Brenda Bates. There will be a funeral liturgy at Epiphany Byzantine Catholic Church, 2030 Old Alabama Road, Roswell, GA on Saturday, October 12 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Epiphany Byzantine Church.
