Carol was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She was gentle yet strong, wise and witty, warm and always eager to help, enriching the lives of her many family members and friends. She will be greatly missed.
Carol is survived by her three children, Luke Boggs, Louise Lubben and Lori Ramsey; their spouses Laura Boggs, Andy Lubben and Ross Ramsey; and ten grandchildren: Maggie Brownsworth (and Joshua Brownsworth), Emma and Sadie Boggs; Isabelle, Thomas, Evelyn and Katherine Lubben; and Hallie, Virginia and Drew Ramsey. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 54 years, Luther Boggs, and her dear brother, Larry Moore, a longtime resident of Roanoke, Virginia.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Roswell Funeral Home. A visitation will be held before the service, starting at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Green Lawn Cemetery, adjacent to the funeral home.
Born in Atlanta on December 19, 1940, Carol was the daughter of the late Tyrus Lawrence Moore and Louise Garrison Moore. She grew up in the joyful company of friends and a large extended family. After graduating from North Fulton High School, she attended Stetson University, joining Alpha Chi Omega sorority and earning her education degree. She would remain close friends with a group of her Alpha Chi sisters for the rest of her life.
After college, Carol returned to Atlanta and taught elementary school. In 1964, friends introduced her to Luther, then a graduate student at Georgia Tech. A little more than a year later, the sweethearts were married. From that time on, she devoted herself to loving and supporting her family. After living in Dunwoody for more than a decade, Carol, Luther and their three children moved in 1980 to then rural Alpharetta, where they built a house in the woods and planted summer gardens with enough corn, green beans, and okra to last through winter and beyond.
Along with Luther, Carol brought people together, nurturing relationships with care and intention. She walked alongside friends through milestones and holidays, often gathering folks around her large dining room table, which she expertly decorated with candles and flowers. She cherished the family’s strong and enduring relationships with close friends and neighbors.
Over the years, Carol enjoyed reading, attending Bible studies and sewing clothes and costumes for her children and later her grandchildren. She had many artistic hobbies, including needlepoint, knitting and china painting. Her friends and family were the glad beneficiaries of her famous pound cakes and beautifully wrapped presents. She loved listening to gospel music and recordings by favorite artists including Elvis Presley, Johnny Mathis and George Strait. Her favorite drink, by far, was Coca-Cola.
Her Christian faith was an essential part of Carol’s life. She was a member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church from childhood into the early years of married life. After about a decade at Dunwoody Community Church, she and Luther spent many years as active members of Roswell’s Fellowship Bible Church. At various times, Carol taught children’s Sunday School, attended retreats and supported numerous ministries.
Carol was by Luther's side when he was diagnosed with cancer in 1996. She supported him through many procedures and treatments, including a highly effective stem cell transplant. The couple enjoyed many more beautiful years together until Luther’s passing in 2019.
Carol delighted in spending time with her grandchildren, picking them up from school, coordinating baking projects and taking them for ice cream, barbecue or hot dogs at The Varsity. Carol and Luther also organized and treated the entire Boggs family to multiple trips to Disney World. For many years, the proud grandmother looked forward to annual beach trips to St. George Island with her husband, children and grandchildren. For a week, the three generations would bond over seafood, sandcastles and happy chaos.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers—including Edna Jackson, Michelle Wilson and Debbie Marinelli—who gave so generously of themselves over the course of Carol’s final year, helping keep her safe and providing her with thoughtful and loving company.
