

Charles Gifford Bartenfeld died on December 20th at the age of 80. Born on May 22, 1934, a native of Roswell, he was the son of Thomas Augustus Bartenfeld and Carol Gifford Bartenfeld. Charles graduated from North Fulton High School and the University of Georgia. He made many life-long friends at UGA, where he managed the football team under Coach Wally Butts. He moved back to Atlanta and became a major player in the Atlanta real estate market both as a broker and developer. He was a life member of Peachtree Golf Club, Capital City Club, and Piedmont Driving Club. An active member of Roswell United Methodist Church, he served on the finance committee. He loved hunting in South Georgia and traveling with his friends as well as spending time with his family. Charles touched many lives with his generosity and kind spirit. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years Sandra Spruill Bartenfeld, as well as his children Debby Bartenfeld Yeomans and daughter Kady, Joan Bartenfeld Pattillo (Dan) and children Rick and Laura, Karen Bartenfeld Smith (Jeff) and children Frank, Louise and Sarah Charles. He is also survived by his stepchildren Debbie Lindstrom and children Erica, Austin, and Michele Levy Dugan (Rob) and children Landon and Parker, and Donna Whitworth Smith (Rob) and children Grayson, Jack and Elizabeth. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Shirley Bartenfeld Harry. He is survived by his brothers Gus, Turner, Jerry and their wives and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends fondly knew him as Papa Charlie. A service will be held at 1 o'clock at Roswell United Methodist Church Chapel, 814 Mimosa Boulevard, Roswell, Georgia 30075 on Tuesday, December 23rd. Family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Roswell United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
