Chyung M. Kim
August 28, 1931 – October 3, 2019
Doctor Chyung Myung Kim, beloved husband, dedicated father, grandfather and friend, passed away on October 3rd, 2019 in Roswell, Georgia. Dr. Kim was born on the 28th of August, 1931 in Koje, South Korea to Kim Bong Yoon and Park Sun Moon.
Dr. Kim served as interpreter attached to the U.S. Army’s 3rd Division during the Korean War. The American soldiers he met became life-long friends who helped him fulfill his dream to come to the U.S. to study. Dr. and Mrs. John Vaughn, whom he considered his “parents” in America, helped him enroll in Florida Southern College and continue to the University of Miami, where he earned a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1964. He came to Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta for Internship and Residency. There, he formed enduring friendships with fellow Residents and was initiated into their hobby of restoring vintage cars.
He began his career as a pediatric physician with Drs. Dunbar, Stone and McClellan. In 1969, he opened his private practice, South Atlanta Pediatrics. Dr. M.H. Lee, joined him as a partner and they worked harmoniously together until 2003, when Dr. Kim retired.
He had a strong work ethic and always placed the patients’ needs first. He also had a warm, appealing personality and patients’ families continued to come see him through two and three generations. He shared his love of boating and fishing with his children, and taught them about his antique cars and his collection of Japanese swords. He was credited for making a wonderful life for himself and his family. Dr. Kim is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Doris Kim of Roswell; Sons Brian Kim and Warren Kim (Sharon); Daughter Leslie Doehring; and grandchildren Tucker, Reagan, Peyton, Annaliese and Francesca. A memorial service to honor the life of Doctor Chyung Myung Kim will be held on Saturday, October 26th, 2019 at 2:00 pm in the chapel at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, GA, 30076. Family will receive friends at reception to follow.

Doris, GOD knew what he was doing when brought both you and Dr. Kim into our lives. Jimmy was a handful with his hyperactivity and you’ll were there to help us in so many ways! You had him come to Emory and worked with so wonderfully well! You and Dr. Kim would be so proud of him today. Father of six and grandfather of two ! He turned out to be an amazing young man thanks to both of you! We have so many happy memories of you both and when I was working for Dr. Kim. What a blessing we received from the Kim Family! Our love to you, Judy and Jim Sallis

We were so sorry to learn of Dr. Kim’s death. He meant so much to our family. Both of our boys were his patients until they reached adulthood. My cousin Barbara was his nurse for many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with Doris and the children.
