Dave was a 1966 graduate of the State College Area High School and entered the United States Air Force shortly after graduating and was deployed to both Europe and Asia as a Forward Combat Air Support Specialist, Quality Control and Weapons Chief, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant before he was honorably discharged from the service in 1974.
He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a BS in Mineral Economics in 1977. He later obtained his master’s degree in Marketing & Finance from Butler University in Indianapolis in 1982.
Dave started his career in 1977 working for Amax Coal Co in Indianapolis and eventually Amax Oil and Gas in Houston, TX until 1993. He moved to Marietta, GA in 1996 to work for JM Huber and finally as Strategic Consultant for Stars International.
Dave was an avid golfer and loved playing several times a week. He was a die- hard Penn State Football fan. His love for all things Penn State was truly unmatched.
Along with his parents, David is preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen A. Porteous.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Dawn Ashcraft MacKenzie of Roswell; son, David A. MacKenzie and his wife, Donya of Fort Worth, TX and daughter, Rebecca MacKenzie Graumann and her husband, Nicholas Graumann of Leander, TX; his sister, Mori Mackenzie and her husband, Danny Tyler of Naples, FL and sister-in-law, Jeri Schumacher of Horseshoe Bay, TX; grandchildren: Nicole and Shane Graumann of Leander, TX and Kaycie and Abby MacKenzie of Fort Worth, TX, and nieces, Kathleen L. Porteous of State College, PA and Katey Schumacher and nephew, Casey Schumacher and many cousins.
A private service with family will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation PKDCURE.org in Dave’s name.
