Dorothy was born on April 4, 1933, in Miami, FL, to Mae Mathis Pope and John Mac Pope.
A devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, Dorothy’s life was filled with love for Jesus, her family and friends, and spending time by the ocean. She had an infectious personality, never met a stranger, and had a deep affection for animals. She cherished reminiscing about the past, read her Bible daily, and remained steadfast in her love for her country, the military, and conservative ideals.
Dorothy made countless sacrifices for her family and loved her daughters dearly. One of her greatest joys was being a grandmother.
Her professional journey included service with the CIA and Pan American before dedicating 23 years to Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. There, she worked in the Development Office and the Ralph Ketner School of Business where a conference room is named in her honor.
She leaves behind her daughter, Melanie; granddaughter, MacKenzie; as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends.
Dorothy was welcomed into her heavenly home by her mother, father, sister Mary, beloved daughter Cindy, and former husband Claude.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Roswell Funeral Home/Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Dorothy’s memory to Samaritan’s Purse samaritanspurse.org, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary bestfriends.org or Catawba College, https://catawba.edu/
Dorothy’s smile and laughter will be forever remembered. We rejoice knowing that her faith is now sight, and she is in the arms of Jesus.
