Born on February 17, 1953, in Columbus, Ohio, Earl was the son of Earl Smith and Bernice J. Smith. Known for his strong mind, he did things his way—living life on his own terms and by his own rules. He held fast to his beliefs, and those who knew him best deeply understood his independence and authenticity.
Throughout his life, Earl found joy in fishing, boating, listening to a wide variety of music, and spending time with his family. In his children's younger years, he especially enjoyed family camping trips, beach trips and creating lasting memories outdoors. Earl possessed a natural curiosity and enjoyed taking things apart to understand how they worked, often choosing the more challenging path simply because he wanted to learn. He was a lifelong learner who taught himself many skills, including playing both the electric and acoustic guitar.
As a father, Earl shared more than hobbies and adventures—he shared his curiosity, determination, and belief in figuring things out for yourself. He coached all of his daughters’ softball teams when they were younger, a role that reflected both his involvement and the way he showed support in his own way. Whether through time spent on the field, sharing his love of classic rock and music, a fishing trip, a camping excursion, a story from his past, or a lesson learned while working on a project, he left his daughters with memories and values that will endure throughout their lives.
Earl proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he pursued higher education, earning an Associate's Degree from Franklin University and attending Ohio State University. Discovering a talent for sales, he built a successful career in investment banking that spanned more than three decades.
Throughout his life, Earl touched countless individuals through his knowledge, experience, gift of storytelling, and willingness to share what he had learned. Whether offering advice, teaching a new skill, or recounting one of his many stories, he had a unique ability to connect with others and leave them with something valuable to carry forward.
Earl is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Carol Ann Sanders Smith; his daughters, Erika Ann Smith, Justine Ryan Smith, and Adrianne Nicole Smith; along with other relatives and many friends who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford "Cazz" Smith and Alfred "Peppy" Smith.
A funeral service will be held on June 12, 2026, at Roswell Funeral Home in Roswell, Georgia to celebrate Earl's life and honor his legacy. Earl's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his legacy of independence, perseverance, curiosity, and devotion to family will forever be cherished.
