Edward John Harof Sr.

August 31, 1940October 30, 2019

Edward John Harof Sr, resident of Johns Creek, Georgia, passed away suddenly from a brain aneurysm at 3:37 a.m. on October 30th, 2019. He was surrounded by his wife, three sons, three daughters-in-law, and all seven grandchildren.

Ed Sr, affectionately called Papa Ed, is survived by his wife of 54 years Lesley Harof; brother John Harof ; sons Edward Jr., Doug, and Greg; daughters-in-law Susan, Terri, and Mindy; grandchildren Alexandra, Nicholas, Chase, Carson, Cole, Charlie, and Tyler.

Papa Ed was born in Bellerose, New York in 1940. He met the love of his life, Lesley “Chickie” in his teens and they were married for 54 years. Some of their favorite early memories were of him singing in his El Dorado Band and cruising the streets of Queens, New York in his Hot Rod Convertible with Lesley by his side. He attended Brooklyn Tech and PMC Pennsylvania Military College. Ed had a prolific lifelong career in the high tech industry working with Honeywell Information Systems and globally with Gunold Technology. His business success took him and his family from New York to Baltimore before making Atlanta home.

Ed was highly regarded in the community as a loyal friend with a philanthropic spirit. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, teaching, coaching, traveling, telling stories, and his sweet cats. He served as the president of the Country Club of the South Homeowners Association and volunteered his time, talents, and resources in countless organizations always aiming to make the world a better place.

By far, the most important aspect of his life was his family. As patriarch, he set the example of love and compassion and imprinted upon everyone the importance of family. It is that aspect of his legacy that makes his absence so painful, but his influence eternal. There are no words to describe the intensity in which he is already missed.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Ed's name. Please click the link below.

Ed was like a brother to me. I have known him over forty years. A good example of his caring attribute was his concern for others more than himself. He would check on me, take me to appointments, and follow up on me to make sure I was good. I will miss him and his companionship. Our prayers will be for him and his great family.

To Leslie, EJ, Doug and Greg: May I extend my heartfelt love and support to the wonderful Harof family. The most wonderful memory I want to share is the life that we led together on Mockwell Court. Those were the happiest of times and now, looking back, we parents can all share our pride for our great kids and watch them now raise our grandchildren. There's so many memories but the many hours we parents spent on the baseball bench stands out and don't forget how our Dugan puppy loved swimming in the Harof swimming pool! Ed will be sorely missed but we all must be comforted that he's in God's hands now for complete peace and love.

We are heartbroken for the Harof family at the passing of the true Patriarch of this AMAZING family. He sure did lead by example. He was always beaming with pride, joy and happiness for ALL of his family AND anybody that surrounded them. We were lucky enough to share time with him on both the baseball and football sidelines. Ed leaves behind a legacy of Harof's that I know will follow in his footstep (big as they are) to continue and honor him. He will surely be missed by our entire family. May his memory be a blessing to all his family.
