Born in Manhattan on August 2nd, 1955, to parents Beverly and George Karell, Eric lived a life filled with passion, intelligence, and heart. For 39 years, he shared a loving marriage with his wife, Cathy, building a life together rooted in commitment, resilience, and deep affection. Together they raised three children-Jessica, Jonathan, and Brian-who were among his greatest sources of pride and joy.
A talented chef by trade, Eric had a gift for bringing people together through food. His kitchen was more than a workplace; it was a stage for his creativity, passion, and generosity. Whether preparing a meal for family, friends, or strangers, he believed that food was one of the purest expressions of love.
Those who knew Eric will remember his remarkable sense of humor. He had a way of making people laugh when they needed it most and could light up a room with his wit and personality. Beneath that humor was a deeply intelligent man whose curiosity, insight, and thoughtful perspective left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Eric was also a man of great emotion and depth. He loved fiercely care deeply and never hesitated to show what was in his heart. His passion for life, his family, and the people he cherished to find who he was and made him unforgettable.
When he wasn't cooking or spending time with those he loved, Eric also often be found cheering on his beloved Michigan Wolverines and the Detroit Red Wings. His loyalty to his teams was matched only by his loyalty to his family and friends.
Eric leaves behind his beloved wife, Cathy; his children; Jessica, Jonathan, and Brian; his daughter-in-law, Ashley; his brother, Mark; his sister-in-law Cara; his mother-in-law Jean; his faithful dog, Hank, whose companionship brought him comfort joy and unconditional love; and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Though his absence leaves an immeasurable void his Spirit lives on in the memory he created the lessons he taught the meals he shared and the love he gave so freely you profoundly missed by all who had a privilege of knowing and loving him.
