Ernie was so special teamed with Milo Hamilton on Brave's broadcasts for those so many years.  He was so real and loved the game. I am so sad to hear this news of his passing.

To the Johnson family and especially to Ernie's sister, Dot Milkey, my sincere condolences.  I watched on TV as Ernie pitched against the Yankees in the 1957 World Series, ignoring repeated calls from my parents to come to the dinner table.  Talk about "hometown pride!"  Later, sometime in the 1970's, my daughter and I stopped by to see the Milkey family in Brattleboro, Vermont, when Ernie happened to be visiting. He very graciously let Kim try on his World Series ring. That was her closest brush with baseball history and I will never forget the smile on her face. 

Always a gentleman, always a World Series winner in my book.

RIP Ernie Johnson! I will forever remember your voice announcing the Braves games.

After attending Ernie's funeral yesterday, I'm sure he's smiling down on us all, for Ernie Jr.'s stories of blackberries and the half hour at the motel in Macon, and the celebration of his life and his many friends coming together to honor such a noble and genuinely wonderful man, is a true testament of a life well lived. God bless you, Ernie, and may God bless your family and all your many friends, as we have all been blessed by your presence on this good Earth.

As a young boy, I enjoyed listening to the Braves and loved hearing the plays called by Ernie, Sr.  I could almost feel myself at the game and smell hot dogs and roasted peanuts. Years later, I had the priviledge of helping start the sports program at Collins Hill Park.  As baseball director, it was here that I first, personally met Ernie, Sr. He was very cordial and not at all upset that people recognized him while he was just trying to enjoy his grandson playing ball. I hope it helps some to know that he touched many lives, many that you may never know or meet, and his legacy will live forever.  Our prayers are with your family and may God Bless each of you.

The world of baseball lost a legend this week, and your family lost a cherished member. I only talked with Ernie, Sr. a few times, but he made me feel like he had always known me.  I am Miles Williams from Suwanee, Ga.  I was raised hearing Ernie calling the Braves' games.  He made the early games fun even though the Braves were not that good.  He made you feel as if you were at the stadium- not in your den.  I could almost smell the hotdogs and hear the vendors "hawking" their wares. His "voice" enhanced my love for the game. I was honored years later to be a part of developing the sports program at Collins Hill Park in Suwanee.  I was baseball director for several years and although I never coached any of the grandchildren, it was here that I first met Ernie, Sr. He visited the park to watch the grandchildren play and I spoke to him on several occasions. He was always very congenial and never seemed to be upset that someone recognized him.  I was saddened to learn of his passing and know that there will be a void in your lives.  May you find some solace knowing that he made many people happy through the years- "calling the plays". He will be missed by many & I know I speak for many when I say "thanks for sharing him with us through the years, you will be in our prayers".

I worked with Ernie Sr. back in the early 80's to early 90's as a AD in the booth with him.  The kindest gentlemen ever. I still can hear his voice and remember the laughter in the booth in the old Braves stadium with Skip and Ernie.  Those were the good ole days.  The Johnson family is in our thoughts and prayers. I was lucky enough to work with Ernie Sr. on many, many Braves television broadcasts as a youngster in the business. He was a true professional and always a true gentleman. He treated everyone with respect and he always had fun covering the game he loved. We always enjoyed watching him go after foul balls with the net from the booth! He touched many lives over the years bringing Atlanta Braves baseball into homes all across the country. What we do in this life means nothing without a love for our Creator, but the way we show it is how we love all our brothers and sisters in His family. I meet Ernie first on the radio as a 11 year old about 1970. Listening while throwing my ball against the wall of the house late in the afternoons or trying hard to stay awake in bed listening to the tough games against the Dodgers in LA. He introduced me to quiet heros like Hank, Nucksy, the Beeg Boy, the Mayor of Statesboro. Even "Line drive......, base hit" was to be celebrated in our Braves family all through the 70's and 80's before we started winning a bit in the 90's. To Ernie's family, sorry I never met you in person but I share your sorrow in missing Ernie and want you to know that he, (plus maybe Sheriff Andy Taylor and John Walton, Sr, :-), was the most important and consistent influence on my young life of anybody outside my local church and family.

I had the absolute privilige of working with Ernie in the broadcast booth from 1978 to 1984 as the A.D/ Stage Manager for Turner. There was and never will be a more gentle man, respectful, knowledgable, and professional as Ernesto.  I remember his smile, the sound of him entering the booth and preparation, his ease and accesibility, and how beloved he was by fans and crew alike.  I understand that Ernie Jr is made of the same stock..how we all benefit from this type of person.  God bless you all during this time, and know this was a very beloved gentleman.

Jean and I were saddened to hear about Ernie's passing. We offer our thoughts and prayers to his family. I worked with NBC covering Ernie and his Milwaukee Braves in their great years. So, it was a joy for me to work with Ernie and his co-conspiritors Pete & Skip covering the Atlanta Braves. He was a gentleman and a pro on the field, in the broadcast booth or in his daily life.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.  Ernie was the sort of person who made knowing him produce special memories.  My parents lived in Crabapple (Katie and Felton Tucker) and my Dad thought the world of Mr. and Mrs. Johnson.  Daddy always had a garden and would share from the garden, and then at holidays Ernie would come to their house bearing gifts.  My Dad was a baseball fan, and he watched most every Braves game for many years.  Ernie was so kind to mention his name during a game broadcast, and my Dad thought that was just wonderful.  We shall never forget his kindness.  We have all lost a wonderful friend.

Like literally thousands of baseball fans, I felt like I knew him as a personal friend.  He  was a welcome visitor into my home on many, many occasions. and I will miss him greatly. My sincere condolences to Mrs. Johnson and his entire family.

I had the honor of meeting Ernie several years ago after he had retired.  I was in the Braves Hall of Fame & Museum.  He was sitting in the dugout brought over from Fulton County Stadium.  At first, I didn't realize it was him.  I spoke to him... he told me he was just there to cool off.  I told him he was one of my inspirations to try to break in to the broadcasting field. My heart is full sorrow over the passing of a wonderful friend and for the grief that the loss is causing the Johnson family. I had the prvilege of working with Ernie for 14 years at the Braves.  He is the truest definition of a gentleman I have known.  I have many fond memories of good times and a few crazy stunts he willingly participated in.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time of mourning.
