

Evelyn passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta on May 4th, due to complications that arose from triple bypass heart surgery. Evelyn Brown was the second daughter of William S. and Virgie P. Brown. She was preceded in death by her youngest brother, William Hunter Brown, and is survived by her brother George R. Brown of Charlotte, NC. and sister Cynthia J. Hancock of Marietta, GA. She grew up in the textile town of York SC. and moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1958. She began her career as a typist at a "little old" insurance office in 1958. She worked hard and excelled at everything she put her mind to, becoming a Vice President with Alexander and Alexander, Inc., a large international brokerage house and was employed there for over 40 years. Her knowledge and experience in the insurance industry was phenomenal. She loved her work and cherished the people she met along the way.
Her commitment to the insurance claims community and those she met and mentored through the years was unwavering. She was active in The Atlanta Claims Association, Insurance Professionals of Atlanta and the Southern Loss Association, serving on the boards and as president of each. She was awarded the Atlanta Association of Insurance Women’s award as Georgia Insurance Women and Claims Woman of the Year. She also received her twenty five year certificate from the Atlanta Claims Association. She achieved lifetime memberships in all of these industry leading groups. Her participation in her industry and community have been outstanding and she served with pride and dignity.
Following her long career at Alexander & Alexander she began a second career at AltaCare serving as Claims Manager and Risk Manager. She was also actively involved in management at Five Rivers Management Company.
She enjoyed traveling, attending auctions, and decorating her escape place, which she called her “Mountain House”. She loved entertaining family and friends. She was blessed with boundless energy and, on several occasions, she treated groups of 25 to 40 people to holiday feasts, which she prepared all by herself. She was loved and respected by her many friends and business associates, and will forever be remembered as a kindhearted, considerate and loving person.
Roswell Funeral Home at 950 Mansell Road Roswell Georgia is handling the arrangements. Visitation is scheduled for Friday at 12:00 – 3:00 and 5:00 – 8:00. The funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, to be followed by a reception from 12:00 to 2:00.
