Soon after, she met the love of her life, Frank Woods, and they married within a few months of meeting. Frank was a proud World War II Navy veteran.
Fay was known for her vibrant, joyous spirit, infectious laughter, and love for singing and dancing. She possessed a rare and beautiful heart, embracing every person she met without distinction of gender, race, or age. She loved visiting cafés and restaurants, where she naturally turned strangers into lifelong friends. She also took great pride in her home, tenderly cultivating her garden and delighting in showing off her beautiful flowers.
Though she had no children of her own, she surrounded herself with a rich circle of cherished friends who became her chosen family, serving as her sisters, aunts, and grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister Violet, her brother-in-law Jimmy Venable, and a host of other dear relatives and friends who loved her deeply. Fay was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank; her parents, Mae and Andy; her brother; and her sister.
Her departure leaves a void in our hearts, but her legacy of joy, love, and inclusion will forever be cherished.
In Loving Memory of Grandma Fay: A Letter from Her Granddaughter, Riley
Grandma Fay, I honestly don’t know how I’m supposed to say goodbye to you.
It still doesn’t feel real that I won’t get to see you, hug you, hear your voice, or have those little moments with you anymore. You weren’t just my grandma; you were my Grams, and that name will always hold so much love for me.
I keep thinking about all the little things we used to do together: our walks around the neighborhood, going to the park, dancing together, going to the fur kids store or Goodwill, and especially our little “I love you more” back and forth. No matter how many times we said it, neither of us ever wanted to let the other one win.
I’ll always remember you rubbing me before I went to sleep. Those moments made me feel so safe and loved. I didn’t know then how much I would treasure those memories now. If I could go back, I would stay in those moments a little longer. I’d let you rub me to sleep, I’d hold your hand a little tighter, and I’d tell you “I love you more” one more time.
Grams, thank you for giving me so many memories that I’ll carry for the rest of my life. Thank you for the love you gave me in all the little ways. I wish I could have one more walk with you, one more dance, one more trip to the park, and one more night with you beside me.
I know I’m going to miss you in ways I can’t even explain yet. There are going to be so many moments when I wish I could call you, see you, or just have you here.
But I promise I’ll keep our memories close. Every walk. Every dance. Every “I love you more.” Every night you made me feel loved and safe.
I love you, Grams. More than you’ll ever know.
Until we see each other again, Grandma Fay. I’ll carry you with me always.
Love,
Riley
