

Gerald was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was known for his love of singing in his church choir, tennis, running, Auburn football and travel. Gerald shared his love of running with his family and was an annual participant in the Peachtree Road Race. Jerry also loved to attend Auburn games and tailgate with his friends and family on football Saturdays. He was able to share his love of travel with his children and grandchildren by taking them on amazing trips to places like Hawaii, China, and Paris. Above all, he loved his family and would always say “We are blessed to have a great family.”
Throughout his life, Gerald achieved many accomplishments in his career and education. He served his country honorably in the US Air Force, serving as a C-130 navigator in the Vietnam War and reaching the rank of Colonel prior to retirement. His Air Force career took him all over the world. After marrying his wife, Dot, they started their lives together in Okinawa. His military service took him and his family to Texas, California, Georgia, Alabama, Rhode Island, Arkansas, and Germany. Being a lifelong learner, he attended the US Air Force Academy, where he received his military commission, The Georgia Institute of Technology, where he received his master’s degree in Information Science and eventually Auburn University where he obtained his PhD in Education. Gerald touched the lives of countless individuals throughout his life and will be remembered fondly by all who met him.
Gerald is survived by three daughters and their families - Susan & Clay Saunders; Leigh Ann & Jim Kane and Beth & Andy Wren; eight grandchildren – Hillary Saunders, Meredith Saunders, Olivia Saunders, Trevor Kane, Max Kane, Wesley Kane, Drew Wren, Sarah Wren; brother – Roger Gill; and countless other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 50 years - Dorothy Swann Gill; his parents - Alton and Virginia Gill and brother - Dwight Gill.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, to celebrate Gerald's life and honor His contributions to our world. Gerald's departure leaves a void in our hearts, but His legacy will forever be cherished.
