Gordon was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and patriarch of the Shumard family. He was passionate about everything he did and was known for his love of life, loyalty to family, and dedication to the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. Known affectionately as Gordy to family and friends, Gordon cherished good conversation, time spent in the great outdoors, camping and enjoying his backyard on his deck, listening to music, and sharing wonderful meals with family and friends. He was a lifelong Auburn Tigers fan and was incredibly happy to see them beat Georgia one last time.
Throughout his life, Gordon was an Eagle Scout, entrepreneur, salesman, and professor. He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics and an MBA from Auburn University. Later in life, he pursued doctoral studies, earning multiple honors along the way. Gordon was an exceptionally hard worker and a guiding force in the lives of those around him, inspiring others to strive for greatness, stay focused on their goals, and become the best versions of themselves.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda; his daughters, Kimberly McCoy, Jennifer Mintz, and Jamie Henry; his grandchildren, Benjamin McCoy, Kendra McCoy, Walker Henry, and Hudson Henry; his brother, James Shumard; his sister, Ann Jarrett; and many extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon "Gabby" Shumard and Mary Shumard, and his brother, John Shumard.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter and St. Paul Episcopal Church, located at 1795 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, GA, to celebrate Gordon's life and honor the lasting impact he made on those around him.
