Helene Clare Long, of Alpharetta, Georgia, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2019 surrounded by her family. Helene touched many hearts with her unsurpassed generosity, welcoming smile, and friendliness. Helene was always looking out for others and helped many on their life’s journey. Helene cherished every friendship that she made throughout her life. Everyone knew her as cheerful, thoughtful, and truly selfless. Helene was an inspiration for others and particularly enjoyed supporting young people as they embarked on their life’s journey.
Helene was born on April 7, 1958 in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. She is survived by her parents John and Sheila Long, her son, Matthew Long, sisters Catherine Long and Judith Long, brothers, Robert Long, Daniel Long, and Mark Long and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.
Helene grew up in Edmonton, Alberta and attended the University of Alberta for the first of many post-secondary degrees. She went on to receive a Master’s degree from Georgetown University in International Studies, a Bachelor of law from George Washington University, and a Masters in Law from the University of Texas.
Helene had an impressive career including positions with American Petroleum Institute, TransCanada Pipeline, Encana, Shell, British Petroleum, and Enbridge. She joined Colonial Pipeline in Atlanta, Georgia in 2017 as Vice President and General Counsel. Helene lived and worked all over the world including positions in Washington, D.C.; Duluth, Minnesota; Houston, Texas; Calgary, Alberta and Bogota, Columbia.
Helene enjoyed entertaining her friends, reading, shopping, and travelling around the world, especially to Iceland and Europe. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 16th at 11:00 a.m. MST at St. Mary’s Parish – Banff, Alberta, Canada. Reception to follow at the Canmore Golf and Curling Club. Special thanks to the staff of WellStar North Fulton Hospital for their compassionate care. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to a nonprofit organization of their choice.
