

Hubert D. (Bud) Harvey, Jr. of Alpharetta, Georgia, died April 30, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Angela, his children, Kyle Harvey of Tampa, Florida, Hunter Harvey of Alpharetta, Chmaine Dowdle and son-in-law, Michael Dowdle, of Atlanta, grandson, Blair Harvey, and granddaughter, Jordan Dowdle. He is also survived by a brother, Tom Harvey, and three sisters Shelia Cannon, Cherry Bess, June Robertson, brother-in-law, Alonzo Robertson, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Elaine Harvey, and brothers, Keith and Jim Harvey.
Bud was born August 11, 1937, in the small community of Hopeful, Georgia. He attended Cairo High School and graduated with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Auburn University. After graduating, he entered the commissioned corps of the Public Health Service as an ensign. He was assigned to work with the Atomic Energy Commission on underground nuclear testing at the Nevada test site. He later directed radioisotope surveillance of nuclear submarine operations. Upon moving to Atlanta, he was named chief engineer for shellfish surveillance in the Southeast. After retiring as commander, he joined his father and uncle in their farming operation, traveling between Atlanta and South Georgia.
Bud was an avid outdoorsman with a love of fishing and hunting. He was a passionate booster of Auburn football, as well as the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church and the Military Officers Association of America.
The family is grateful for caregiver, Harriet Davis, who looked after Bud with compassion and respect.
The family will receive friends at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Road, on Thursday, May 6, from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 7, at 1:30p.m at Johns Creek (Church of the Hills) Presbyterian Church, 10950 Bell Road in Johns Creek.
