Jack was born on September 19, 1936 to Joshua Lawrence and Mattie June Speir in Avondale Estates, Georgia, in the house built by his Father. He was the youngest of four sons. He graduated high school and won the FFA state cattle judging contest providing a scholarship to college. However, he didn’t accept the scholarship because his Dad was sick and he worked to help provide for his parents during their time of need. He later went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Law degree from Woodrow Wilson College of Law.
Jack always worked hard. A child of the Great Depression, he grew up farming, and working in a cotton mill as a young man. He later started his own business. Jack owned a printing company providing printing to companies such as Chick Fil A and Coca Cola as well as printing for many elected officials across Georgia and the country including presidents, members of congress, governors, judges, and other officials. He had a huge heart and an unrelenting work ethic. He was strong, brave, wise, kind, funny, and full of life. He overcame challenges that seemed insurmountable. He loved the Lord and his family, and he never met a stranger. He would help anyone in need. He was filled with grace, goodness, kindness, generosity, and amazing strength to overcome circumstances that would have defeated others. He never gave up and he fought the good fight of faith until God called him home.
Jack met his beautiful wife June in Atlanta. They had two children, three stepchildren and were married for 62 years before June’s earthly departure in July of 2020. Jack and June achieved a lifetime of happiness and the love they shared created memories that will be remembered and cherished forever.
Jack loved good food, barbeque sauce could be found on all his favorite ties. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog Buddy. His family and friends will forever remember him for his huge heart for God and life, and his kind and loving spirit.
Jack was an outstanding husband, father, grand-father and friend.
