James Bridges (Jim) was born on July 11, 1937. He peacefully departed this earth on March 9, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Peggy; loving sons, Mark Bridges (wife Robin) of Cary, North Carolina, and Todd Bridges of Alpharetta, Georgia; cherished grandchildren, Alex Bridges and Lauren Bridges.
Jim was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. He embarked on a successful career journey after graduating from Athens College in the early 1960s, starting with IBM. Over 13 years, he undertook various roles and assignments that took his family from Huntsville to Rockville, Maryland, and eventually to Westport, Connecticut. In the late 1970s, Jim joined telecommunications provider Stromberg-Carlson with stops in Tampa and Orlando, Florida, where he rose to the prestigious position of President in August 1981. In 1984, he continued his leadership journey as President of Unisys, System Services Division, relocating the family to McLean, Virginia. Jim served in this capacity until his well-deserved retirement in 1994.
Upon retiring, Jim and Peggy settled in Alpharetta, Georgia, where they found joy and community at Mount Pisgah for most of their retirement years. They also discovered a love for the mountains of North Carolina, eventually building a cherished home in Sapphire where they spent many memorable weeks during spring, summer, and fall.
Jim embraced new passions in retirement, including golf, where he achieved an impressive four holes-in-one and became a respected member of the Rivermont Golf Club. He also enjoyed playing bridge, participating in tournaments across the United States and Europe with Peggy, achieving Life Master status together.
Beyond his professional achievements and hobbies, Jim was known for his kindness, honesty, and genuine warmth. He touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy of positivity and love. He was a devoted husband, father, and doting Poppy to his grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim's remarkable life will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 11 am at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Rd, Roswell, GA 30076. Interment will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery, with a time of refreshments and fellowship at the Roswell Funeral Home Event Room afterward.
