Jim moved to Atlanta in 1967 after graduating from the University of Tennessee to begin his career in accounting. He spent his profession working at Ernst & Ernst, Ernst & Whinney, Dixon Tom-A-Toe, and CMAR Credit Union – climbing to the Chief Financial Officer position at Dixon and CMAR.
Shortly after moving to Atlanta, he met his wife Joan. They married in 1972 and remained married for over 47 years. Jim and Joan have three children: Lisa Brigham Anderson, James Chadwick Brigham, and Matthew Paul Brigham. They have four grandchildren: William Cameron Wilson, Johan Anderson, Sophia Elizabeth Brigham and James Patrick Brigham. They also have one great grandson: Emmett Wilson.
Jim served in the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1974 after 6 years of service. He also served as an Usher for Mt. Zion United Methodist Church for over 30 years.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching action movies (like Lone Wolf McQuade, Man on Fire, Taken and John Wick); however, he always entertained Joan’s love of Lifetime and Hallmark movies.
Jim was a sports fan and followed Tennessee football. He became a UGA fan and was also an Atlanta Falcons fan – carrying season tickets for many years.
Over the years, Jim enjoyed taking Joan to live concerts – seeing Elvis Presley three times and Jimmy Buffett over 20 times with family and friends.
Jim enjoyed traveling and enjoyed his trips to Hawaii, Costa Rica and the multiple cruises with Joan, Bud, and Brenda Norris. His favorite place on earth was St. Simons Island.
He will be remembered as a gentle, caring, and kind man that always put others ahead of himself.
In lieu of flowers, please take your loved ones out, celebrate life, and toast Jim Brigham.
