It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James ‘Jimmy’ Duvlaris. He passed away, with his wife and children by his side, at his home in Woodstock, Georgia on April 30, 2025, at the age of 79.
Born in Queens, New York to his parents, Nomikos and Angeline, on May 25, 1945, he began his culinary journey working side by side with his father in his restaurant in Bronx, NY. Jimmy was later drafted and bravely served his country in the Vietnam War in the United States Army 1st Aviation Brigade as a Reconnaissance Combat Photographer from July 17, 1967 to July 16, 1970. After serving in the Army, he continued his culinary journey in Marietta, Georgia. On the downtown Marietta Square in 1976, Jimmy and his beloved wife, Mary Duvlaris, opened Jimmy the Greek Restaurant, which eventually became Jimmy’s on the Square, until 2001. He was a staple on the downtown Marietta Square for over 40 years.
To all that knew Jimmy, he was a man of immense humor and kindness. He was at his happiest and funniest around his parents, his siblings (Angelo and Mary), his wife’s parents, her siblings and specifically his wife, his three kids, his seven grandchildren and his fourteen nieces and nephews. There was always an inappropriate joke to be told and Jimmy was more than happy to deliver.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Mary; his three children Friday (Dean) Paulson, Sunday (Sotir) Christopher and Nomikos Duvlaris; and his seven Grandchildren, Stephanie Paulson, Joanna Paulson, Matthew Paulson, Emily Paulson, Anna Christopher, Mary Christopher and Nicholas Christopher.
The funeral for Jimmy will be held at Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church on Monday, May 5, 2025 at 11 am with the viewing to precede the funeral beginning at 10 am at the same location. In lieu of flowers, donations to Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church would be appreciated.
