Mr. J.B. Spencer

J B Spencer, 77, of Alpharetta GA, passed away peacefully at home on Dec 28 2016 after a long, but staunchly fought illness. He leaves his much beloved wife, Patricia McIlwraith Spencer, his daughter, Jennifer Lynn Spencer, his son, Jeffrey Baird Spencer (Tammy Carlton) and grandson, Christopher C. Spencer.

J B was born March 5 1939 in Denver CO. He grew up in Lamar CO and was a 1957 graduate of Lamar High School where he excelled in Basketball and Track, played drums in the LHS Band and danced with the Lamar Dudes and Dames. He graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1961, was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and enjoyed a very active presence on campus. J B married his college sweetheart, Patty, following graduation at the First Presbyterian Church in Boulder, June 9 1961.

J B enjoyed several careers; first in the securities industry in Colorado Springs. His underwriting of the Mechanex Corp, Div. of Tenneco Oil led to a move to Atlanta GA in 1963 where he represented the Denver company in the Southeast for many years before joining the Budd Company. Later he became a broker of large industrial equipment, which was his occupation until he retired.

J B was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a soft-spoken, observant man, who had many long-time friends. He had imagination and if asked a philosophical or spiritual question would have a thoughtful, very personal response. He had a quick sense of humor and was an enjoyable companion, whether hunting, golfing, dancing, or at the dinner table.

He is predeceased by his parents, John Baird Spencer and Vera Lutz Spencer of Lamar CO and brother Delbert K. Spencer of Rocky Ford CO. He is survived by his sister, Donna L. Wilcox (John), of Charlotte NC, nephews, Ronald Joe Spencer, of Charleston SC and Christopher S. Wilcox of Charlotte NC, niece, Susie Spencer of Rocky Ford CO, as well as a number of grandnephews.

A Memorial celebrating J B's life will be held in Highlands NC at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
