A graveside service will be held noon, Friday, at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Mansfield, GA. Rev. Dr. C. Gray Norsworthy of Johns Creek Presbyterian Church will be officiating. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Roswell Funeral Home.
Jean was born in Grayson, GA, in 1924, and spent most of her life in Decatur and Buford, GA.
She graduated from Avondale High School in 1940 and, following the untimely death of her father, went to work as an engineer at Southern Bell where she worked for the next 36 years and where she met her husband Walter. She and Walter were both proud members of the Southern Bell “Pioneers”. After retiring she and Walter enjoyed gardening, sailing on Lake Lanier, and spending time with family.
Jean and Walter were long time members of Johns Creek Presbyterian Church.
Jean is survived by daughters Marsha Hairston Mulderig (John) of Cordele, GA, Susan Hairston Zeigler of Greer, SC, and Marilyn Hairston Lorick (Cliff) of Johns Creek, GA, son Steve Hairston (Ellen) of Acworth, GA, grandchildren Ryan Mulderig (Franny), Jamie Mulderig (Kim), Sam Zeigler, Joey Zeigler (Colleen), Cliff Lorick (Melanie), Jeffrey Lorick, Anna Hairston Kennedy (Matt), and four great-grandchildren.
Jean is preceded in death by Walter Gross, Jr., her husband of 41 years.
Jean was a kind and loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her and whose life she touched.
