Jeannette Derum, age 87, died Wednesday, September 5, 2018.
Jeannette and Mike on their second date knew they were meant to be together and got engaged agreeing on three priorities for their lives together – their faith, many children and music in their lives. They celebrated 67 years of marriage on April 7, 2018 and will remain an inspiration to us all for their unwavering commitment and dedication to each other.
Jeannette was a loving wife, mother and friend, who devoted her life to those she loved including the Catholic Church. She was a wonderful conversationalist, loved a party, loved a mean game of Tripoly, and you automatically knew she would win anything having to do with trivia, but played with her anyway. She had a way of making people feel warm and special, and that you belonged, and she has left the gift of many happy memories that will continue to make us laugh. Anyone who knew her, whether it was for 5 minutes or 5 years, would say what a special woman she was.
Like many people, Jeannette did things her own way and always spoke her mind, (she was German you know), but always did so with kindness and without offense to others. A loyal and faithful friend, with a strong sense of right and wrong, she would look you straight in the eye and say, "by my way of thinking, you are wrong", and then love you anyway when you did the opposite. She was more than intelligent, she was wise, a life-long learner, with a keen sense of humor, a memory that was beyond excellent, and an incredibly quick wit that often caught you by surprise.
Jeannette will be remembered for many wonderful qualities: her fierceness, both in her beliefs and her devotion to her family, her elegance and grace at all times and mostly for her unending love for her husband.
Jeannette was living at St George Village when she passed and the family would like to thank the incredibly loving and caring team that took care of her in her final days. She will be missed greatly, but will continue to teach us through the example of how she lived her life....
A role model and an inspiration that will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. Live your life by example and others will follow.....
She is survived by her husband Mike (or as Jeannette always called him, “honey”) and children Linda Derum and husband Dan, Vicki Hiscutt and husband Peter, Michael Derum and wife Kimberly, Susan Barnes, Margaret Butler and husband Roswell, Kathleen Craig and husband Thomas; 4 grandchildren: Travis, Julie, Katie, Michael Joseph; and 5 great grandchildren: Daija, Henry, Alice, Anna and Evie.
