Jerry Marchelletta, Sr., 88, of Alpharetta, Ga passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Saturday, May 20th, 2023. Born to Cesidio Marchelletta and Domenica Iatonna, he was raised in what was an iconic settlement village for Italian immigrants in the NYC area, Corona, Queens, where he was the youngest of his siblings Adelina, Orazio, Lucia and Donato. An older brother Antonio had earlier passed away at the age of 2. All but he and his brother Donato were born in Italy and he learned to speak English in the 1st grade by attending public school.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret Romano, and the 3 children they had together ( Jerry Jr., Jeffrey and Joyce ) although he was Dad to 4, having taken in his wife’s niece Lucille when she was 7 and raised her as their own. His memory will be forever cherished by his 9 grandchildren, Jared, Travis, Jordan, Jerry III, Dawson, Alyssa, Charlotte, Morgan and Quentin, and his kids’ partners in life Stuart Ronis, Sandy Marchelletta, Jim Laidler and Trey Haines.
A United States Army Veteran, he was a Carpenter by trade and the lead foreman on the last great World’s Fair held in America, at Flushing Meadows, NY in 1964, located in the shadows of his childhood neighborhood and now home to the US Open Tennis Championships. He led the field efforts for Nastasi Brothers on all of their projects for the Fair and was instrumental in constructing the world-renowned Imperial Palace as designed by the Republic of China, the first of its kind ever erected in the Western Hemisphere. He would go on to become Executive Vice President and a minority Stakeholder in Nastasi White, Inc., the first commercial drywall contracting firm to surpass $ 100,000,000 in annual billings in the United States. He “retired” in early 2000, swapping his shares in a subsequent company Nastasi & Associates for a majority stakeholder position in The Circle Group, LLC until 2020, and held the position of Chairman until his passing. He continued to show up for work each and every day until a stroke in mid-2022 at the age of 87.
He was “Old School” before anyone coined the term and he leaves behind a legacy of infallible integrity, strength, honor and dignity. He loved laughing, playing cards, hunting with family and friends and watching his grandchildren participate in their sporting events growing up. He was a Rockstar to all who knew him and he enjoyed their company as much they enjoyed his.
