

Jerry “Gray Fox” Richstein, aged 74, passed away on May 14th, 2026. He was born on April 6th, 1952, to Jack and Helen Richstein in New Port, Rhode Island. He then had a happy childhood in Brooklynn, New York, and on Long Island, New York.
Jerry was a beloved spouse and father. He was known for his upbeat and positive personality and his dedication to many organizations. Jerry was a very active leader in Scouting throughout his life. He was an active ASM (Assistant Scout Master), then Advancement Chair with Troop 714. He was also very active with the Foothills District Eagle Advancement Board Committee, and active at the Atlanta Council level. Jerry spent numerous years staffing NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) with multiple years as a Course Director. Jerry worked not one, but two tickets to completion at Woodbadge courses 92-39 and 92-54.
Jerry then staffed Woodbadge course 92-60. He was also very active in multiple car clubs. Including, The AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) Atlanta chapter, and Allatoona chapter, The HCCA (Horseless Carriage Club of America) Atlanta chapter, the BCA (Buick Club of America) Dixie chapter, The Reatta club, the BDE (Buick Driving Enthusiasts), Creeper’s car club, and ROMEO’s (Retired Old Men Eating Out). Many of these car clubs Jerry served as either President, Vice President, or Treasurer over many years. Jerry spent 30 plus years as a Civil Engineer in the bridge department at Norfolk Southern Railway. While at Norfolk Southern Jerry was a dedicated teacher for Operation Lifesaver, the national train safety organization. He went all over Atlanta to schools teaching about safety around trains.
Throughout his life, Jerry achieved many accomplishments in both the professional world and in many organizations. As a teenager Jerry achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was inducted into the OA (Order of the Arrow) Scouting’s national honor society. Jerry achieved his Master of Science in Civil Engineering and was inducted into Chi Epsilon, The civil engineering honor society. As an adult in scouting Jerry was awarded both the Award of Merit, and the Foothills District Lifetime Achievement Award. Jerry’s dedication to scouting and the car clubs touched the lives of countless individuals through his selfless giving and happy demeanor.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Jean, and son Russ. His brothers Marty and Alan, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Jack and Helen, and his cousin Anita.
Per Jerry’s wishes, there will be no service, no memorial, and no shiva. His ashes will be entered by Jean and Russ at a family plot located in Roswell, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Troop 714 in memory of Jerry.
