Jo Ann was born February 27, 1939, in Murphy, NC, moved to Atlanta after high school, worked as a Southern Bell telephone operator and married Dwayne Segars in 1959. She became a mother of three children and stay-at- home mother. Once her children were grown, she worked at the church preschool.
She was an active member of Alpharetta First Baptist Church and Crabapple Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Dwayne Segars, her parents Howard and Stella O’Dell, brothers Herbert O’Dell, Bob O’Dell, Harold O’Dell and sister Geraldine Lockaby.
She is survived by her three children, Ray Segars (Wanda) of Brookhaven, Barry Segars (Patricia) of Alpharetta, Beth Ewing of Saint Simons Island, grandchildren Lauren Vonfeldt (Andrew), Chelsea Ewing (Henry Dineen), Matthew Segars, Grace Chasteen (Evan), Edie Ewing and Benjamin Segars, six great grandchildren, sisters Joyce Stewart, Carolyn Swinford (Mather), Wanda Benfield, Judy Wilson (Jerry), Reba Burger (Ron) and brother Max O’Dell (Judy).
Funeral services will be held Saturday September 26, 2026, at Roswell Funeral Home with viewing and family visitation beginning at 9:30 am and a memorial service in the chapel at 11:00 am. Interment immediately following the service at Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family sends sincere appreciation to Huntcliff Summit, Grace Senior Living of Woodstock and Sympathy Care Hospice staff for their kind and gentle care of Jo Ann over the last two years.
