John Frank Atkins, age 50, of Powder Springs, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2021. A native Atlantan, John was the son of James Frank and Margaret Louise Atkins.

You can tell a lot about a person by their refrigerator, and John’s fridge reflected how he lived his life: Crowded with photos of friends and family, references to cats, Delta Air Lines and the Georgia Bulldogs, and with an always evolving commentary courtesy of magnetic words.

John met the love of his life, Elaine, while they were both working at Delta. They married in 1997 and spent the next 21 years indulging in their passions for travel, Georgia Bulldogs football, and building an expansive network of close friends. Sadly, Elaine passed away in 2019.

John had a heart for both humans and animals. His generosity was unmatched—from providing Thanksgiving turkeys to his colleagues to being a willing ear for his friends in need. And cats seemed drawn to him—both the cats he owned (the late Miss Kitty) and the neighborhood cats who came to visit daily.

John loved his family and he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a wonderful and devoted husband, son, brother, and friend. His life and influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him.

John is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elaine Atkins and father, Frank Atkins. John is survived by his loving mother, Louise Atkins; brother, Rocky Atkins and his wife Sally; sister, Kimberly Conner and her husband Joel, nephew Karl Deuser and his wife Shelby, and nephews Keith Deuser and Derek Conner.

A graduate of Sequoyah High School in Doraville, John received his Associate’s Degree from Dekalb College and immediately joined Delta Air Lines. He retired from Delta after almost 30 years of distinguished service. A visitation will be held Saturday, October 9, 2021 at four o’ clock in the evening at Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, Georgia 30076. My deepest condolences to John's family. We got to know John and Elaine well when we lived in Atlanta from 2000-2010. Always up for a good time we loved them both very much and had many great memories with them at their house and throughout Atlanta. Destin with John and Elaine, UGA games in Athens and Columbia, SC; Panama City Beach with John for Steve Swaney's bachelor party, my 40th birthday that John came to Chicago for, and recently our chance to celebrate his 50th in Atlanta are among my favorites. He was a special guy - not another one like him before or after. We will miss him down here but glad he is reunited with Elaine up there.

So saddened and surprised to hear the news of Johns passing. He always had a funny story to share of his and Elaines adventures and they had many. Now they get to be together on the eternal adventure. Prayer for his family and friends. ❤️🙏

My condolences to the Atkins family and his friends.
I worked with John some years ago at Delta then from time to time would see him and Elaine at UGA games (LSU game in Baton Rouge and UT game in Knoxville are two I definitely recall)
John was to put it plainly a good dude.
May he Rest In Peace.

My sweet Butterscotch! My heart is broken that you and your smile are not here to greet us at the store another night. I will think of you every single time I wear my DONKEY KONG shirt and remember how you loved it so much that I had to get you one! I will forever cherish the pic you sent when you put your new shirt on-such a fantastic smile! The moose you gave me has a whole new meaning and I loved it before, but more so now. I will always be thankful that you asked ME, of all peeps to "BEDAZZLE" your cane! It was an honor to do so in the only way I saw fit.....with GEORGIA BULLDOG tape, of course! I will continue to sing my song for you through my tears….”why do ya build me up….BUTTERSCOTCH, baby just to let me down...." more and more now. Crazy sidebar....when I didn't see you at the store this past Saturday night, I got home and ordered you a new shirt that got here today.....this was before I knew, BTW. I decided to order one for myself as well. Thank you for all the pickle juice-haha and your amazing friendship. You will always hold a special place in my heart! Goooooo DAWGS, SIC EM! Sleep well and peacefully, sweet John!

Love, Missy and Billy Marlowe
