John Lauris Gould was born on November 4, 1942, in Bangor, ME, sharing his birthday with his father. Throughout his life, John demonstrated a strong sense of independence, dedication, and determination, building a life centered on family, professional accomplishments, personal interests, and service to others.
John graduated from Maine Central Institute in 1960 before answering the call to serve his country in the United States Navy. He proudly served for more than three years and was honorably discharged in September 1963 with the rank of Second-Class Petty Officer.
Following his military service, John continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Arkansas State University. He went on to complete his Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Arkansas in 1969. His professional career began with Chrysler Credit Corporation in Atlanta, GA, where he worked in the finance industry.
It was in Atlanta that John met the love of his life, Linda. The two were married on October 21, 1967, beginning a marriage and life together that spanned nearly 59 years. John was self-employed for much of his business career, working primarily in real estate sales and finance. His entrepreneurial spirit and business knowledge allowed him to pursue opportunities independently and build a career on his own terms.
John enjoyed an active and varied life, with interests that kept him engaged both professionally and personally. He loved traveling, playing golf, maintaining his physical fitness, trading stocks and options, reading, playing bridge, and enjoying a good game of Kings on the Corner. He especially loved the ocean and the time spent enjoying its beauty. Some of his fondest moments included sharing stories and experiences with family and friends, often bringing laughter and connection to those around him.
John believed in the simple but meaningful philosophy that "Laughter is good medicine." It was his favorite quote and a reflection of the joy he found in life's moments and the importance he placed on laughter. He also valued community involvement and was an active member of the Optimist Club, where he served in several leadership roles, including President, Secretary-Treasurer, and District Activities Chairman.
Above all, John leaves behind a family who will carry his memory forward. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Gould; his son, Chris J. Gould, and daughter-in-law, Tammy Gould, of Denver, CO, and their daughters, Ella and Liliana Gould; his daughter, Catherine G. Nye, and son-in-law, George Douglass Nye, of Jacksonville, FL, and their children, George Alan, Savannah, and Bethany Nye. He is also survived by his brother, James Gould, of Philadelphia, PA, along with several nieces and nephews.
May the stories, memories, and laughter he shared continue to bring comfort and joy to all who loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the chapel of Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Rd, Roswell, GA 30076, at half past 11on the morning of November 15, 2026. A reception will follow immediately after. The family kindly asks that guests wear blue or white in honor of Mr. Gould.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in John's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, two organizations that were especially meaningful to him.
