John Bostic Hamrick, Jr., age 81, passed away on November 4th, 2023. He was born in 1942 to John Bostic Hamrick and Jacqueline Allen Hamrick in Richmond, Virginia. John lived in the Atlanta area for most of his adult life.
John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially if filet mignon and fine wine were involved. He also enjoyed working out and playing golf. Our family and friends are thankful for the good times we shared with him.
John was a certified Professional Numismatist, which is a collector of coins, paper currency, and medals. John was introduced to coin collecting by earning a Boy Scout merit badge, which quickly led to a lifelong passion for coins. He attended Georgia Tech, but left school to start investing in and selling rare coins. He was so successful in the business that he founded World-Wide Coin, which became a publicly traded company in the 1970’s. In 1972, he was featured in a New York Times article for purchasing three coins worth $1.15 in face value for $230,000. He owned several other businesses including a band tour bus company, a camera company, and several coin and precious metals companies.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Zoya; his children Christine, John, James, Chase, and Angelina; and his grandchildren Genevieve, Nicholas, Ben, Alexis, Meghan, Halle, and Addison. He was preceded in death by John Bostic Hamrick (father), Jacqueline Allen Wilder (mother), Allen Hamrick (brother), and Mark Hamrick (brother).
A private family service will be held.
