John William Powell Toppin

John attended the Combermere Secondary School in Barbados.

John fell for the most amazing woman, Pearline, they have been together for 61 years and this June would’ve been their 50th wedding anniversary. They were blessed to have and nurture three loving children and one step-son. The love they shared created memories that will be remembered and cherished forever.

John had an unrelenting work ethic. While in Barbados, he devoted many years to the Cave Shepard and Barbados Rediffusion. After embarking on a new journey to America, John settled in New York, where he worked at the Statler Hilton and Brooklyn Public Library as a Peace Officer.

John enjoyed singing to all who would listen. He enjoyed watching cricket and tennis. Everyone who knew John knew that he loved to watch horse races. His family and friends will forever remember him for his caring and loving spirit and his wonderful sense of humor.

John was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pearline; step-son Jefferson Miller, sons: Robert Toppin and Adrienne Toppin (Daughter in Law), John Toppin and Tanisha Toppin (Daughter in Law), daughter, Donna Stevens and Thurman “Roy” Stevens (son in Law).

Grandchildren: Chole Toppin, Todd James, Jarren James, Ariyana Toppin, Sharoya Stevens, Rashaun Stevens and Kimberly Stevens (Granddaughter in Law), Teresa Toppin- Hollingsworth, Javon Toppin, Deion Toppin, Brittney Toppin, Bianca Toppin, Brianna Toppin, Leah Toppin, Aalyiah Toppin, Nyilah Toppin, Noah Toppin, Johnathan Miller and Christina Miller (Granddaughter in Law) and Christopher Miller.

Great grandchildren: Janely Stevens, Brooklyn Vinson, Josiah Toppin, Armil Toppin, Amare Toppin, Akari Toppin, Mason James, Kayden James, Jaylene James, Laniyah James and Jaime Miller, and countless relatives and friends.
