On Thursday, February 15 2019, Johnny Baker passed away at age 60 following a brave battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, he was surrounded by family as he met the Lord.
Johnny Was born in Ennis, Texas on December 10, 1958 as one of 11 siblings. He always showed great resilience in the face of adversity, even from an early age. He began working in his family’s convenience store at 10 years old and continued to help support his family until the day he graduated from Tivy High School in 1977. He would then go on to be the only member of his family to earn a university degree. Johnny spent the next seven years attending college classes by day and working by night to pay for his education, and he proudly graduated from Texas Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems in 1983.
While still in college, Johnny realized several major milestones that would shape the course of his life. His aptitude as a young engineer earned him a programming job with Texas Instruments in 1980, an experience that would open the door to a long and successful career in the IT field with companies such as Apple Computer, Cisco Systems, and several innovative start-ups. Around this same time, Johnny married the love of his life, Marianne Lidiak, in 1981. They welcomed their daughter, Stephanie, in 1983, and Madeline in 1991. The family of four was later completed by the addition of their beloved maltese mix, Princess Lollipop.
Johnny was a dedicated family man with a unique wit and a knack for solving problems. He was also a role model who embodied Christ’s greatest commandment; he loved God with all his heart and soul and mind, and he loved his neighbor as himself. Johnny was always actively looking for ways to take care of others, from members of his family to complete strangers. He had a true heart of service, and nothing gave him greater joy than giving.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Marianne; his daughter Stephanie and her husband Chad, his daughter Madeline and her husband Chris; his grandchildren Landon, Bryson, and Gloria; his sister Tonya and her husband Keith; and his nephews Jamie and Brenden. Friends and family are invited to mourn his loss and celebrate his life on Monday, February 25 at 2:00 PM at North Point Community Church. A private family burial will follow.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
