JP Hammond, 31, of Buford, Ga., passed away July 28, 2023, following a brief illness. He was surrounded by family and even said he was starting to feel better. Turns out he was wrong, but he’d never admit it. He is survived by his sister Phoebe, brother Hayden, mom Michele, dad Jon, gammy Linda, grandma Marie, Roy, aunts Monica, Courtney, Lynn, Celeste, uncles Tracy, Greg, Paul, cousins Haley, Madison, Kelsey, Brandon, Caitlin, Dana, Garrett, Quinn, Danny, and Henry, and numerous loved ones. He was welcomed to his eternal home by his Papa (Tommy Steadman) and his Papa Mitch (Mitch Hammond).
JP left us too soon, but he made the most of his time here. He moved to Key West after high school and loved the small town feel and having family all around. He was a keen observer of life; the people he met and the situations he encountered fed his imagination, often giving way to hilarious retellings, with names changed to protect the innocent. He was a gifted writer and would have done a much better job writing this than we have, so we hope he’s not too disappointed with how this turns out.
He cared deeply about his friends and family, loved his dogs unconditionally, and was kind-hearted through and through. He was a big kid with a playful sense about him, which squared perfectly with his preferred diet of strawberry frosted donuts, Sour Gushers, Shirley Temples, and Fruity Pebbles. He ignored attempts by his brother and sister to label food they were keeping for themselves in the fridge. He claimed he never saw them. The truth will remain a mystery. He loved the Red Devils, Jackie Chan movies, and bad rap that was so bad it was good. He gave everyone (well maybe not everyone) more credit than he gave himself. He was smart as a whip. He held no grudges. He only ever wanted to be better, do better, and give back. He left a list of all the goals he had for himself, including next steps and further research to tackle them. He was on his way. We lost big when we lost you, JP. We will love you forever. You will always be in our hearts and prayers.
A celebration of life will be held this Saturday, August 5th at 2:30pm at Buffalo’s Café, 1175 Buford Rd., Cumming, GA. 30041. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.roswellfuneralhome.com for the Hammond family.
