Joseph “Scott” Boze was born on August 27th, 1946 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, GA. He was the first son born to Jere and Lucy Gartrell Boze, followed soon after, in 1948, by his brother Jere Boze Jr. He grew up in Atlanta where he graduated from Marist School in 1964 and went on to receive his Bachelors of Science in Geology from the University of Georgia in 1969. He would later continue his education to receive his Professional Geologist License.
In 1976, he married Lucy Lawrence. They welcomed their first born, son, Joseph “Jay” Lawrence Boze, in 1981. In 1985, they had their daughter, Ashley Marliese Boze, who was the first female Boze born in almost 75 years.
Scott was truly one of a kind. He enjoyed the simple things in life and was by no means “extravagant”; except for when it came to his choice of Scotch. He preferred College Football over NFL (“Go Dawgs”). He enjoyed wood working and even made several pieces of furniture over the years; cherished treasures now.
He always loved a good adventure, even if it was just a drive through the North Georgia Mountains. He loved to travel. He lived Saudi Arabia with his wife, and son for about 4 years. While there, they traveled in the Middle East and Europe. His favorite country, by far, was Switzerland, where he visited several times throughout his life, and when it is safe to do so, his children will take him back there, one last time.
His greatest love, besides his children and grandchild, was music. Music fed his soul in so many ways. Whether it was Yes, Pink Floyd, Frank Sinatra, Gershwin…etc. If there was music, he was happy; with the exception of some of the music his children made him listen to when they were teenagers.
Scott also loved to sing. He was a member of the Peachtree Presbyterian Choir for many years. His favorite experience was playing live shows with his bandmates from “Harm’s Way”, and he especially loved singing at McKinnon’s Louisiane Restaurant. Scott always wanted to find his “Cheers” family, and that’s exactly what he found at McKinnon’s. It was his home away from home and everyone really did “know his name”.
Scott was taken from us too soon, on August 18th, 2020, after fighting a 20 day battle with Covid-19. Our entire family wishes to express our sincerest gratitude to all the fantastic people at Piedmont Hospital for their efforts in supporting Scott. This includes not only the doctors, nurses and Chaplain, but all the support personnel that never saw Scott but who provided the support services that permitted the staff to serve him and the other patients. May God bless them all.
He is survived by his two children; Son, Jay, and daughter, Ashley; daughter-in-law Andrea, son-in-law Kyle, and his grandson, Jayden. He is also survived by his brother Jere, his sister-in-law Sachiko, and his two nephews, Scott and Jere III and their families.
Scott was fun-loving, a voice of reason, always good for a laugh, and a great friend to many. He was a truly gentle soul whose light will never be forgotten.
Due to the current times, there will be a virtual memorial service on August 27th, 2020. Zoom meeting is posted below for family, friends and guest to join.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please donate to help keep his “home away from home”, his “Cheers”, McKinnon’s Louisiane alive and thriving during this unprecedented and uncertain time. That’s really all he would have wanted.
