June Elizabeth Shurney, 82, of Snellville, GA. passed away on June 7, 2021 at her home in Snellville, GA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Sunday June 20, 2021, at Green Lawn Cementary, 950 Mansel Rd. Roswell, GA. The family will be greeting friends and relatives at 10:50 am.
June was born on June 13, 1939 in Kingston, Jamaica to James Egerton and Thelma (Cox) Wilson. June grew up in Kingston, Jamaica. She attended Camperdown Primary Secondary and High School for girls in Kingston, Jamaica. After high school she attended West Indies College in Manchester, Jamaica. When she came to America she attended The Fashion Institute in Los Angeles, CA majoring in Fashion Design; She also attended Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, CA where she received her education and training as a Psychiatric Nurse. June Shurney LOVED education and educating herself in any and all subject matters and was an avid reader since childhood. In the 60’s she worked at IBM, Mattel’s Toy Company and Legs Hosiery where she had her own Legs truck which enabled her to sell to her own clients. She then worked as a Psychiatric Nurse where she worked for many years.
June strongly believed in education and sent her children to boarding school and then on to Oakwood College. June worked hard for many, many years, then she met and married Dr. Green Shurney and became a homemaker. June has four children, 3 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. June was a God fearing woman who loved the Lord and she returned her tithes faithfully. When she lived in Huntsville, AL she was a very active member in the Oakwood SDA Church. She later became a member of Congregation Beth Hallel. June enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening, interior design, and SHOPPING just to name a few.
June was preceded in death by her Father and Mother James and Thelma Wilson, her Brother Noel Wilson and her Husband Green Shurney. June is survived by her children Ricardo (Seble) Bennett of Las Vegas, NV; Michelle Bennett of Lithonia, GA; Tracy Bennett; Darius Triche of Lithonia, GA. Her sisters Claudette Cotterell of Stone Mountain, GA; Kathy (Carlos) Martinez of San Jacinto, CA; Sharon Negash of Snellville, GA. Her grandchildren Trechelle Triche (Christian Haye) of Snellville, GA; Allen Triche of Snellville, GA; Riley Liberty; Noel Bennett of Las Vegas, NV. Her great-grandchildren Kayden, Khai and Kaylani Haye of Snellville, GA. Her Nieces and Nephews Sean (Joy) Searcie; Carla Martinez of Lithonia, GA; Yodit (Scott) Donovan of San Jose, CA. Rahel Negash of Alameda, CA; Nico Coscarelli of San Jacinto, CA; Yosef Negash of Irmo, SC. Her great-niece and great-nephew Yohaness and Hannah Searcie and her other relatives. She is also survived by her lifelong friend Beverly Stewart.

Mrs. June was a strong black woman, meeting her for the first time it was obvious she was in charge. She was not afraid to express what she felt. She will be missed by family & friends. My condolences to the family. May God give you all comfort & healing during this time.

On behalf of the Searcie family, Hannah, Yohannes, Joy and Sean, I want to express my sincere condolences to Ricky, Michelle, Tracy, Darius, Trachelle, and others who were close to Aunt June.
I remember Aunt June as someone who had a good sense of humor and was fun to be around. A strong woman who loved her children.
I am sorry that we cannot be their physically at this time, but please know that we are praying that our God will bring each of you comfort in the days, weeks and months ahead.
