Karen Darlene Pickett was born on July 6, 1959 in Detroit, Michigan to the union of Doris Henderson and Otis Roosevelt Pickett. She was the second oldest of three children. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of the Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
She attended Visitation Grade School and Henry Ford High School in Detroit and graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelors degree in Engineering. Karen valued education and went on to receive her Master’s Degree. She went on to pursue a career in Engineering with Digital Corporation, a Fortune 500 company. She excelled in computer systems and eventually became a successful business owner.
In 2006, Karen moved from Farmington Hills, Michigan to Atlanta. Georgia. She settled with family into Alpharetta area, where she met and married her husband, Iris “Eric” Silva.
Karen had a dynamic and magnetic personality. She loved and enjoyed life. She met no strangers and has friends who love and cherish her from all walks of life. She was an avid card player and gained a family of friends through this. Her spirit, her joy for life, and her intellect, only add to how much she was loved and how much she will be missed.
She was called home suddenly on April 3, 2014 to be with the Lord. Karen was admired and loved by all the people she came to know. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones and family members. She leaves behind to mourn her husband, Eric; children: Danielle and Van Michael; step-children: Iris Jr., Thays and Anna; grandchildren: De’Chanel, Harlem, Anthony and Annabella; one brother, Kenneth; one sister, Kelly; brothers- and sisters-in law, Rodney, Richard and Deborah, Kendrick and Leslie, and Alfredo and Nina, and a host of nieces, nephews, close relatives and friends.
