Kenneth Frederick Vordermeier

Kenneth (Ken) Vordermeier passed from our world on May 9, 2020. He was born on July 5,1933 in Englewood, New Jersey to Harry J. and Anna Vordermeier. The Vordermeier family including brothers Harry, Jr. and Alan relocated to Fort Lauderdale in 1942 where the family began successful careers in the Real Estate and Insurance businesses. Ken graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School where he, together with 5 schoolmates and Coach Andrew Kruse, founded the Fort Lauderdale High School Golf Team at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club. From there he attended University of Florida where he was elected to the Student Executive Council in his Freshman year. Ken is a Life Member of Sigma Chi Fraternity where he served as Chapter President his Senior year. Upon graduation in 1955 he returned to Fort Lauderdale and founded Vordermeier Insurance Services, Inc. as a part of Vordermeier Companies.

In 1955 Ken met and married Carol Mattull, they were married 59 years. Carol became a member of the Junior Womens Club of Wilton Manors and the Republican National Committee. Carol passed away on March 3,2014.

Ken and Carol were preceded in death by their first-born son, Brian Alan Vordermeier and Carol’s brothers Harve “Inky” Mattull and Terry Louis Mattull. They are survived by their daughter Lynn McGarry and husband M. Andrew McGarry of Roswell, Georgia and son Kurt Vordermeier and wife Stephany Vordermeier of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Grandsons Grant McGarry and wife Karin McGarry, Conor McGarry and wife Kayla McGarry and Kurt McGarry and wife Leigh Anne McGarry all of Roswell, Georgia, brothers Harry J Vordermeier Jr. and wife Shari Vordermeier and Alan Vordermeier and wife Sandy Vordermeier , Great-grandsons Gunnar Andrew and Gage Russell and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to the insurance business Ken was the founding member of the Executives Association of Fort Lauderdale where he served as President in 1963, he was also Director of Sales & Marketing Executives of Fort Lauderdale, a licensed pilot and President of Empire Airlines, Inc. a Fort Lauderdale based airline.

In 1996 Ken and Carol relocated from Fort Lauderdale to Alpharetta, Georgia to be near their family. Ken purchased another insurance business in Georgia and in 2013 sold the business and entered retirement.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to Samaritan’s Purse for Emergency Medicine to respond to the Covid-19 crisis.
