LaShaunda L. Foutner, the daughter of Deloris Whitfield, was born December 27, 1985, in Detroit Michigan. She was the eldest of three children (Oprah Jones and Carlton Wade). She also held a special place in her heart for her grandmother, Alma. As a young person, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at the skating rink, or choreographing routines to her favorite songs. She was also very creative and fashionable. She loved putting together looks that highlighted her natural beauty. More importantly, education was important to her. She enjoyed reading and writing and was an amazing writer. In 2004, she graduated from First Coast Academy. LaShaunda proved to be a star student by maintaining honor roll throughout her years in school.
The Union
In 2002 LaShaunda met the love of her life, Gary Foutner. Their young love quickly grew. On October 16, 2004, they joined in Holy matrimony. Through their 19-year union, they had five amazing children (Emmanuel, Layla, Leyah, Lauryn, and Lorielle). LaShaunda was extremely proud of the family that she and Gary established. They nurtured and showered their children with love, encouragement, life lessons, and TIME. She adored her family and took advantage of every opportunity available to spend time with them. She once quoted “you are totally replaceable at work. You’re not replaceable at home. Home is your real life.”
The Nurse
LaShaunda began showing interest in the medical field during her teenaged years. She kept herself buried in teaching herself medical terms just for fun. It was no surprise when she began her pursuit of a career in nursing. In April 2014, LaShaunda obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Davenport University. She was a true scholar and extremely confident with her knowledge. In fact, after taking her NCLEX exam she stated “I ain’t got no worries because I was prepared. I don’t hope I passed...I know I passed. Positivity is key.” She went on to work in different areas of nursing before finding her niche in Emergency Nursing. It was at Emory University Hospital where she quickly climbed the ladder from staff nurse to relief charge nurse to Unit Charge Nurse. After many years at Emory, LaShaunda’s love of travel encouraged her to pursue a career in travel nursing.
The Legacy
LaShaunda touched the lives of many during her 37 years of life. She loved, nurtured, inspired, spread wisdom, educated, and she saved lives. She was the epitome of a virtuous woman. She completed her assignment, and on October 30, 2023, Lashaunda was promoted from labor to reward. LaShaunda leaves to cherish her husband, Gary; children: Emmanuel, Layla, Leyah, Lauryn, and Lorielle; mother, Deloris; sister, Oprah; brother, Carlton; grandmother, Alma; mother-in-law, Bertha; sister-in-law, Audrey; sister-in-law, LeKesha; brother-in-law, Andre; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. We love you but God loves you BEST.
LaShaunda will be laid to rest in Green Lawn Cemetery, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, Georgia 30076.
