On March 11, 2015 Heaven welcomed a gentle, kind, generous and loving soul. Lewis Keith Wood Jr,age 64, passed away peacefully in his home with his wife by his side, after an extended illness. He was greeted by the loved ones who preceeded him in death including his parents, L. Keith Sr. and Dorothy D. Wood, first wife, Sandra B. Wood and son, Martin Keith Wood.
Born September 18, 1950 in Chattanooga, TN. Keith was a small toodler when his family relocated to Atlanta and he considered himself a proud, native Atlantan, growing up in the Emory area.Keith was an avid swimmer and was a member of the Druid Hills Swim team.
Keith attended the Georgia Military Academy ( now Woodward Academy) and graduated in 1969, which was the first graduating class of Woodward after the transition.He continued his education at Georgia State University, earning a degree in business. While at GSU, Keith was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, serving as the President his senior year. He was inducted as a member of Omicron Delta Kappa and was awarded the Outstanding Sophmore Award in 1971.
Keith began his career in the family plumbing manufacturing business, L. Keith Wood & Company and upon the death of his father, took the helm and continued in this industry, owning several businesses. Until his retirement in 2009, he was a Manufacturers Rep, representing State Water Heaters at Sunbelt Marketing.
Serving in many capacities during his life, including the Board of his neighbothood HOA and other professional and local boards, Keith's leadership abilitities were admirable and well respected. Keith's passions were many and one of those was traveling the world, sharing many wonderful memories with family, friends and business associates. No passion was greater than that for the game of tennis and he and his wife Lynn were active members and volunteers of the Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association. Keith served ALTA in many capacities, including Team Captain, Coordinator, Men's League VP. President, Chairman of the Board and is an Honorary Member. On the court, Keith was a member of many men's, mixed doubles, and senior tennis teams at Horseshoe Bend Country Club, where he was a long time member. One cannot speak of Keith without mentioning his love of Jimmy Buffett and his Jeep is known by his Parrothead license tag. Keith was not known for his singing ability, but when a Buffett tune was playing, he was signing loud, off key and happily.
Left to cherish Keith's memory are his adoring and devoted wife, Lynn; sister Judy Stevens along with her children George Stevens (Leah) and Keith Stevens ; sister Kathleen Wood Kurz (Richard) and their daughter Marie, stepchildren Spencer VanMeter( Heather)and Amanda Mattera (Luke) and 4 grandchildren, Alyssa, James, Lily and Reid. Keith was also "daddy" to his beloved Westie furkids, Chester Jo and Hawleywood, who were always the bright spot of his day.
The celebration for the life of Keith Wood begins with Visitation on Thurs. March 19th from 5-8 pm at the Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Rd . The funeral will be Fri. March 20th at 11:00 at Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church
