

Lucille “Lucy” L. Yankee of Roswell, Georgia passed away on August 12, 2024, at the age of 87. Lucy was born on June 28, 1937, in Huntington, West Virginia the daughter of Herbert D. and Lucille E. Lowry. Lucy graduated with a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University in 1964. After graduation, she accepted a job with Rich’s Department Store in Atlanta, Georgia as a buyer for their women’s department. Years later became the controller for an Atlanta based restaurant group and retired from there in 2001.
In 1965, she met and married the love of her life, Paul F. Yankee, Jr., and moved to Roswell, Georgia where they started a family. Lucy was very involved in her community and was appointed to the Roswell Planning and Zoning Commission where she served for many years. Lucy was also involved with the Roswell Women’s Club, Roswell Historical Society, and spent many years volunteering her time for the Roswell Arts Festival. She was also a long-time volunteer at North Fulton Hospital working in the ER, transportation, and as the treasurer for the volunteers. Lucy loved spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, listening to music, she loved working puzzles and watching the birds outside her windows.
Lucy was a loving and devoted wife, mother and friend who would do anything for those she loved. Losing Lucy is like losing the sunlight from the sky; her warmth and light may be gone, but her presence will always continue to guide us through the darkest days. Lucy will be remembered and deeply missed by those lucky enough to have known her.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Lucille Lowry; her husband of almost 54 years, Paul F. Yankee, Jr.; her brother, James W. Lowry; and her sister Virginia R. Cummings. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Y. Collins (Clark) of Alpharetta, Georgia and her grandchildren Madalyn and Christopher.
