Lynn Williams Wood died peacefully on September 11, 2024, surrounded by her four daughters. Lynn was married to Peter Hubert Wood for almost sixty years, raising a family, welcoming grandchildren, and saying goodbye to Peter in the same loving home on Pine Street. Lynn was a woman of wonderful humor and deep integrity. As they headed out the door for social gatherings, her daughters would always receive her sound advice, “remember who you are.” She is survived by her four loving daughters, Jennifer Fithian (Ted), Elizabeth Wood (Dan Powers), Margaret Whiting (Carl), Charlotte Muzik, and her sister, Gwain Griffin. Lynn was preceded in death by her adoring parents Harry and Helen Williams, husband Peter, sisters Karen Vratimos and Noel Purcell, and son-in-law Matt Muzik.
Born and raised in Kenilworth, Illinois, Lynn attended New Trier High School. Into her 90’s, she could still remember her old study hall, Room 173. She attended Southern Methodist University to study education and graduated from Denison University. She was a natural born teacher and taught in Corpus Christi, Texas for several years.
Lynn was a wonderful mother, friend, and grandma to Drew Fithian (Cate), Jessica Williamson (Grant), Marie Fithian, Joanna Ross (Evan), Oliver Whiting, William Whiting (Sophie), Bennet Robbins (fiancé Emme Lis), Avery Robbins (girlfriend Shelby Chinappi), and a great-grandmother to Annie and Thomas Williamson, and Harper Fithian. In all she did, she loved her family and devoted her life to them. Family always came first. She led her life with love, light, and laughter.
Lynn was a loyal volunteer for forty-five years with Rush University Medical Center where she made lifelong friendships. She was well known for her generosity and kindness, making thousands of beaded bracelets for students in Oregon. To receive a bracelet, the students needed to share something positive about themselves. Lynn was quick witted and loved to laugh. She will be so deeply missed, and anyone that knew her considered themselves very lucky. She is at peace in the heavens, and in our hearts. A private family burial service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lynn’s name to The Women’s Board Endowed Fund for Research and Clinical Trials to support cancer research.
