

Madeline Johnson Nix, beloved mother of Sara Nix Valles (Steven) and Amy Nix O’Neil (Jeffrey), passed away on August 11, 2026, after a brief illness. She left this world peacefully, surrounded by her family.
Born and raised in Forsyth, Georgia, Madeline met and married her high school sweetheart, Preston S. Nix, Jr., with whom she shared twenty‑four years of marriage until his passing in 1984. A woman of deep faith, she was a devoted member of Saint David’s Episcopal Church in Roswell, Georgia, and served many years as the parish’s Director of Buildings and Grounds.
Madeline was known for her humor, resilience, and her abiding love of nature and gardening. She cherished time spent with friends and family and had a gift for making those around her feel seen, valued, and loved. Her joyful spirit, quick wit, and the fun she so often sparked will be remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughters, Sara (Steven) and Amy (Jeffrey); her grandchildren, Seamus and Isabel O’Neil; and her sisters, Cornelia Speir and Rebecca Waters. She is preceded in death by her husband, Preston; her parents, Bernice and Guy C. Johnson; and her brother, Guy M. Johnson.
All who knew and loved her are invited to join the family in celebration of her life. A graveside service will be held at Green Lawn Cemetery (950 Mansell Road) in Roswell, Ga, on Saturday, August 15, at 11 am.
