Marta Ann Oliver was born on July 27, 1962. She was lovingly placed for adoption by her birth mother, Charlotte Williams. Yvonne Oliver adopted her from birth and loved her as her own. She attended Hayward High School in Hayward, CA. She met the love of her life, Jay Bradley Blackmon, and they were married in August of 1985. She and Jay had two children, Marisa Ann Blackmon and Jayson Brice Blackmon.
She was heavily involved in ministry and pregnancy crisis counseling in Palo Alto County, CA. They moved to Iowa in 1998 when Jay’s job transferred him there to train others in his profession as a journeyman machinist. She moved to Washington D.C. to care for her grandson as her daughter attended graduate school. She then moved to Chattanooga, TN where she worked as a CT technician. She loved helping others, and her job afforded her the opportunity to, not only help others, but make lasting impressions on her patients and co-workers.
After her daughter had her second son, Marta didn’t hesitate to drop everything to come and live with her daughter and care for her grandchildren in Roswell, GA. Her greatest joy in life was watching her grandbabies grow and spending time with them, baking, dancing, swimming, and laughing. Marta was full of life and love. She was such a joy, the rock of her family, and, simply, the best. She was the lead singer of a rock band, the surrogate mother to many, and loved and took care of more people than can be mentioned. She loved fiercely, and was loved beyond measure.
She is survived by her daughter, Marisa (Dan) Remsberg, her son Jayson (Kayleigh) Blackmon, her grandsons Jackson and Everett, her granddaughter Stevie, her chosen brother and sister Tim and Catherine Rogers, her biological mother Charlotte Hooker, her brothers and sisters Terry, Cindy, Michelle, Regina, and Ricky, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family members. She was preceded in death by her mother Yvonne Oliver, and her beloved husband Jay Blackmon.
We love you, mom.
