Mary Alyce was born on July 22, 1930 to Ream Milton Clapper, Sr. and Evelyn Lind Clapper in Belvidere, Illinois and grew up in nearby Rockford, Illinois where she graduated from East High School and attended Rockford College.
She worked as a stewardess before settling in the Atlanta area in 1961. While her children were growing up, she was active in the Girl Scouts where she served both as a leader and neighborhood chairman.
She also enjoyed singing in the church choir and attending Bible studies. Mary Alyce settled permanently in Alpharetta in 1990, where she continued to be active in her church community, most recently as a regular attendee of Christ the Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Throughout the years, she and her husband, Tom, enjoyed snow skiing, boating, traveling, and spending time with children and grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Ream Jr. and Eugene Arthur, son-in-law, Greg Melton, daughter, Tamara Lind Baker, and her husband, Thomas Gordon Bartels.
She is survived by her children, Theresa Inglima and husband, Jerrold Inglima of Alpharetta, Georgia, Steve Bartels and wife, Pamela of Des Moines, Iowa, Lise Melton of Des Moines, Iowa, Nancy Kunkel and husband, Joseph Kunkel of Richmond, Virginia; 14 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
The family is grateful for all the wonderful care that she received at Inspired Living Alpharetta.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at Roswell Funeral Home from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Christ the Shepard Lutheran Church followed by the interment at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mission Partners of Christ the Shepherd Lutheran Church Alpharetta, GA.
