Mary Alice was born in Southern Rhode Island to the late Lee C. and Alice Tower McCauley.
She graduated from Purdue University with a BS in Home Economics. She was a member of Alpha XI Delta Sorority and served her sorority as a national officer and council member for many years after her graduation.
She and her loving and devoted husband, Doug, met at Purdue and were married for sixty-two years. After moving to Marietta in the seventies, they became faithful members of Roswell United Methodist Church, where they sang in the Sanctuary Choir for nearly forty years. Mary Alice also sang with the Michael O’Neal Singers.
Mary Alice was a skilled seamstress, and she designed and sewed many unique costumes for RUMC choir programs and concerts. She also designed and graphed all of the squares for a counted cross-stitch wall hanging, created to commemorate the Bicentennial of United States Methodism. It is on display in the RUMC Parlor. She was also a well-known “chef” and enjoyed sharing her delicacies at Super Bowl parties and other social events.
In addition to her parents, Mary Alice was predeceased by her infant twin sister. She is survived by her husband, Doug; her sister, Ruth Agnes Stuart (Doug) of Cambridge, Vermont; nieces, Holly Anne Stuart, Betsy Kranz Jones, and Kay Kranz Stiles; and nephews, James and Michael Stuart.
A celebration of Mary Alice’s life will be held on Friday, May 3, at 11 a.m. in the Roswell United Methodist Church Sanctuary. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Roswell United Methodist Church Worship Arts Ministry.
