Michael Kevin Grogan, 74, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, in Atlanta Georgia. Michael was born on September 26, 1951, to his mother, Margaret Campbell and father, William Grogan on the Southside of Chicago.
Mike was the youngest and last surviving child of Margaret and Williams’ five children (Bill, Tommy, Rita, and Johnny). The Grogans were active members of the Catholic church and Mike fondly remembered his time at Mendel Catholic High-School in Chicago, which he attributed as the foundation for his strong faith and family values. Mike loved spending time with his siblings and extended family in Chicago, especially his older brothers Tommy and Billy, the other two members of the self-proclaimed “Three Amigos”, with whom he shared a special closeness and lifelong bond.
Mike was a driven and dedicated student, attending MacMurray College, where he met his wife Nancy, graduating in three years with a double major in Philosophy and Political Science before pursuing a career in law and earning a scholarship to attend the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, graduating with honors in 1976 and serving as Editor of the Law Review. Mike went on to build a successful practice in labor and employment law in Jacksonville Florida, crisscrossing thousands of miles across the state to build an extensive client list of state employers and public universities, earning a reputation as a tenacious labor negotiator, and becoming a named partner at Coffman, Coleman, Andrews & Grogan before turning thirty-five.
In 1978, Mike and Nancy began their family with the arrival of their daughter Meg, followed by their daughter Katie in 1981, and Michael Patrick in 1986. Mike was a devoted father, encouraging and supporting his children’s pursuits, and relentlessly emphasizing the importance of education. Mike was an ever-present figure for all of Meg, Katie, and Michael’s activities, always cheering them on as they pursued dance, sports, or artistic and academic achievements. His children lovingly remember him as a generous and loving father, who always supported them in whatever phase of life they were in.
At leisure, Mike was a lifelong learner, an avid reader, and a cinephile of the golden age of Hollywood, no doubt schooled by his older siblings. It was not uncommon for Mike to simultaneously fly through three or four books in a given week, especially where they covered his favorite topic of American history and his most cherished historical figure, Abraham Lincoln.
It was fitting that Mike passed away just before St. Patrick's Day. He was deeply proud of his Irish heritage. His mother emigrated from Ireland at the age of 16 and he cherished his memories of traveling to her homeland as a child. There is no doubt he was celebrating with his family and all the saints on St. Paddy's Day — and his spirit, warmth, and love will live on in everyone whose life he touched.
Michael is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy and his children, Meg, Katie, and Michael, their spouses Reg, Tom, and Cristin and his grandchildren, Campbell, Patrick, Emsley and Wilson.
A funeral service will take place at 10:00am at St. David's Episcopal Church, 1015 Old Roswell Road, Roswell, GA 30075.
