

Pye Nancy Hill Pye, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, stepmother, and devoted citizen, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17th, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on June 13, 1936, in Guntersville, Alabama, to Henry Martin Hill and Clarabel Gattis Hill.
Nancy lived a life filled with love, resilience, and unwavering commitment to her family and community. A longtime resident of Pelham, Georgia, Nancy was actively involved in numerous civic programs throughout her life. She served as the Executive Director of the Pelham Cultural Commission in the late 1970s, where she played a pivotal role in supporting important community initiatives, including the Bicentennial Celebration and the Town Hall Flagpole project alongside her husband, Bernie. Her hard work and dedication earned her the prestigious title of Manager of the Year by the Georgia County Welfare Association in 1998, as well as the Pelham Heritage Award, which she received with Bernie in recognition of their contributions to the community.
Nancy was also a dedicated member of Hand Memorial United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and actively supported various ministries and outreach programs. She served on the church's advisory council and held positions on other local and state boards, demonstrating her deep commitment to faith and community service. In addition to her professional and religious commitments, Nancy dedicated herself to community service.
While her husband, Bernie, was actively involved in the American Legion, Nancy served in the American Legion Auxiliary. She served as the club's past president. She contributed her time and talents to the Mitchell County Food Bank, United Methodist Women’s Boards, and various other community-focused programs.
Nancy was married to the love of her life, Bernie Pye, until his passing in 2013. Together, they built a life characterized by joy and companionship. After losing Bernie, Nancy honored his memory by continuing to serve their community and surrounding herself with the love of her family.
Nancy is lovingly survived by her two children, Elizabeth Dorsey White (Jim) of Roswell, Georgia, and Evans Sikes Dorsey, Jr. (Mimi) of Cashiers, North Carolina. Her stepdaughter also survives her: Kathy P. Boostrom (Ron) of San Antonio, Texas. Nancy's legacy includes her cherished grandchilren, Everett Sikes Dorsey and Samuel Lane Dorsey, both from Charleston, South Carolina, Denver Cook (Brian), and David Godwin (Azure), and 3 great-grandchildren, who will forever hold her in their hearts. Her first grandchild, Calvin Hill Starr, who loved his Nana so much, predeceased her. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Holley of Arab, Alabama, and 5 nieces and nephews.
Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support touched the lives of many, making a lasting impact on all who knew her. Nancy's spirit will be remembered through the countless stories shared by family and friends. Her legacy of love, strength, and community service will continue to inspire future generations.
A memorial service will be held on November 7th, 2025, at Andersonville National Cemetery at 2 pm EST, where family and friends are invited to celebrate Nancy's life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hand Memorial United Methodist Church in Pelham, Georgia, an organization dear to Nancy's heart.
Nancy will be deeply missed, but her spirit and love will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
